A computer scientist who turned to energy
Asked to introduce himself, Jerzy Rugiełło starts with a story from his neighbourhood, where people say he works magic. When a friend's daughter asked her mother what that actually meant, the mother sent her to ask her aunt. The aunt thought for a moment and told the child: he turns ugly hags into beautiful women.
He trained as a computer scientist at the Jagiellonian University. Computing was his first passion; energy came later and gradually took over. Today he runs Oktaedr, a naturopathy practice in Krosno, and works in the tradition of holistic healing, which treats a person as a whole made up of body, mind and spirit. That is also how he describes himself.

Access to energy and the role of initiation
Asked whether working with energy requires initiation, Rugiełło replies that everyone who is alive has access to it, because without it life would not be possible. As he sees it, initiation puts a name to something that has always been happening rather than granting a new ability.
The same conviction shapes his attitude to helping others. He advises against turning it into a mission.
Give people a fishing rod, not a fish, because later they'll come back complaining about what kind of fish it was.Jerzy Rugiełło · 20:04
Help handed out endlessly comes back to the helper as resentment. The point is to give people a tool, not a ready-made result.
Vibrations, fear and astral travel
Vibrations come up several times in the conversation, and Rugiełło uses the word in a specific sense. He does not mean a mood or a declaration, but the state a person happens to be in. In his view, that state determines what you connect with, and you cannot set it by intention alone.
When we're in fear, we won't necessarily connect with something good, but with lower vibrations, because our own vibrations are lowered. Fear will connect you with that.Jerzy Rugiełło · 23:46
Talking about people who download a guide and try to project their consciousness out of the body, he reaches for a comparison:
It's as if you got into a lift that has no buttons. You'll be taken to whatever your inner self and your heart are in sync with.Jerzy Rugiełło · 24:40
That is why he discourages such attempts for people who do not understand the whole process. In his view, the direction is set not by the technique but by the state you are in when you sit down to it. Hence the amount of space the conversation gives to breathing.
Breath and the stress mechanism
The question was why anyone needs to know about chakras if they work on their own anyway. The answer does not require believing in chakras.
It's like breathing. You're born with the ability: a baby takes that first breath and it's breathing. But is there a difference between one kind of breath and another? There is. You can live your whole life without ever paying attention to your breath. When do you notice your breath? When I'm choking, when there isn't enough air.Jerzy Rugiełło · 29:38
From there it is a short step to stress. Rugiełło points out that the stress response evolved for short, sudden reactions. A person who heard a threat in the bushes held their breath to work out where it came from and tensed their muscles, ready to run. Those who reacted well survived and passed their genes on.
But the body cannot tell a threat to life from a deadline at work. It reacts the same way: it holds the breath and tenses the muscles, except that instead of a few minutes this goes on for weeks. Breathing becomes fast and shallow, and a body that gets less oxygen works less well. None of this needs to be taken on faith; just check your own breathing the next time you feel tense.
Destiny and free will
Asked about destiny, Rugiełło answers with a riddle. He asks his interviewer whether destiny exists and declares a yes to be the wrong answer. He asks again, and declares a no just as wrong.
His position is this: a certain destiny does exist, but the road to it depends on you. He adds a point about age. Up to a certain moment, more of your life follows from what you came into the world with; later, your own decisions carry more weight. He refers to the Hindu tradition, which places the threshold of adulthood at around forty, and admits that he himself matured at that age.
He rounds it all off with a quotation he attributes to the Torah, cited from memory:
Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Watch your words, for they become deeds. Watch your deeds, for they become habits.Jerzy Rugiełło · 37:10
Choosing your parents and the life plan
The question of why a person is born to these parents and not others leads to the idea of life between lives. Rugiełło refers to the books of Michael Newton, a hypnotherapist who recorded his clients' accounts from regression sessions. In this view, the soul knows the outline of the life ahead of it and agrees to live it, even though it no longer remembers this after birth.
He himself treats this as one possible interpretation, not as established fact.
Or maybe it's a morphic field and we simply pick up certain information from that field. Maybe we weren't necessarily there, maybe not reincarnation, maybe the Akashic records aren't necessarily true. There are so many things, and at the same time maybe they're all true.Jerzy Rugiełło · 1:17:48
He deals with the question of older and younger souls in a similar way, dismissing the differences between schools in a single sentence: one rabbi says this, another says that.
Forgiveness and the greatest duty
He describes forgiveness as an act of love and one of its aspects. It is about freeing yourself from a burden, not about settling scores with anyone.
The greatest task in a person's life, the greatest duty, is to live your own life. How you live your life determines a certain piece of reality that you fill.Jerzy Rugiełło · 1:23:00
Four steps: meet, know, love, transcend
Towards the end of the conversation, Rugiełło sets out his method in four points and notes that people's questions usually start with the last one.
