🌑 Tensor earrings with Snowflake Obsidian – gold-plated 925 sterling silver
A Lost Cubit in 925 sterling silver, plated with 18-karat gold: tensor ring, butterfly back and post plate. In the center, a hand-cut snowflake obsidian from Arizona, black volcanic glass with white clusters.
Under the gold plating there is solid 925 sterling silver. The plating itself is a layer, so with daily wear it can rub through at the edges over time and then the silver underneath shows. The silver stays.

Obsidian is not a mineral but a glass: lava that set too quickly to arrange itself into a crystal lattice. The white flecks are cristobalite, which managed to crystallize in the glass after all. The first inhabitants of the Americas made blades from obsidian sharper than surgical steel.
