🌙 Tensor earrings with Moonstone – gold-plated 925 sterling silver
A Lost Cubit in 925 sterling silver, plated with 18-karat gold: tensor ring, butterfly back and post plate. In the center, a hand-cut moonstone from India, a milky feldspar that lights up with a blue glow as the head moves.
Under the gold plating there is solid 925 sterling silver. The plating itself is a layer, so with daily wear it can rub through at the edges over time and then the silver underneath shows. The silver stays.

We cut the stones one at a time, so no two pairs ever come out identical. Here the differences show the most: the strength of the glow depends on how the cutter sets the stone against its internal layers.

The glow is due to adularescence. The stone is built from alternating, microscopic layers of orthoclase and albite, which scatter light and reflect mainly the blue wavelength. It is an optical phenomenon, not an inclusion, which is why the shimmer moves along with the stone.
